Camouflage: What It Is and How We Got It

Camouflage is a well-known feature of any clothing intended for hunting or the military. You may be curious as to what camouflage actually is. The word itself is derived from French, where is means essentially to veil something from sight. Camouflage is a style or coloring pattern that renders a person nearly invisible while still being entirely present in a location.

The whole of the British armed forces eventually came to their senses and outfitted all of their soldiers with khaki clothing by 1902.

The use of khaki spread to the United States not long after its complete absorption by the British. Camouflage spread quickly at that point, because guns and other weapons had gotten to accurate, fast, and powerful that hiding from them became one of the top military priorities.

Toward the end of the first decade of the twentieth century, the Italians began switching their mountain uniforms to a greenish grey color, and it was so successful that the entire Italian military wore the color by the end of the decade. At about the same time, the Russian army started donning khaki uniforms as a standard procedure.
